Angkor Thom tourism

This is a huge fortified city ruin from the Khmer Dynasty era in Siem Reap, Cambodia. It was built in the late 12th century by King Jayavarman VII, who was a strong believer in Buddhism.

In Khmer, "Angkor" means "royal capital" and "Thom" means "big". As its name suggests, it boasts a vast site measuring approximately 3km on a side (total area of approximately 9km2), and is approximately four times the size of neighboring Angkor Wat.

◎Namdaemun

It is the best preserved of Angkor Thom's five city gates and is the first entrance to the ruins that greets tourists.

Many sightseeing tours enter the vast interior of the city through Namdaemun. More than just a "gate," it is a magnificent piece of sculpture, and is the first highlight that draws you into the overwhelming worldview of the Khmer dynasty.

◎Bayon Temple

Towering in the center of Angkor Thom is the ruins of a Buddhist temple representing the Khmer dynasty. It was built at the end of the 12th century by King Jayavarman VII, who was an ardent Buddhist.

If Angkor Wat is a symmetrical structure with a ``sophisticated beauty that soars toward the sky,'' Bayon is a ruin that resembles a stone labyrinth, swirling with ``complex, strange, and mystical energy.''

11:40

Ta Prohm Sightseeing (Admission)

A popular spot famous as the filming location for the movie "Tomb Raider." Giant banyan trees envelop the ruins, creating a mystical landscape that will make you feel as if you have wandered into the world of an adventure movie.
